Title: General, Bachelor of Science
Institution: Open Learning Agency, Canada

Level:

Degree.

Description:
The program leading to the Bachelor of Science, General Program degree requires concentrated study in one subject to the level required for a minor (18 upper-level credits). Students choosing this option should recognize that they may be required to complete make-up courses before being eligible for graduate programs in their subjects of
specialization.

Degree requirements:
To qualify for a degree, students must obtain 120 credits, including 45 upper-level credits, with a grade point average of 2.0 over those upper-level credits used to meet degree requirements. Six credits of upper-level course work, chosen in consultation with an advisor, must be completed in university courses. Because OU's offering of upper- level science courses is very limited at this time, students should expect to complete a significant number of courses at or through other institutions.

General education requirement:
- 6 credits in first-year English
- 3 credits in humanities other than English (e.g. history, humanities, philosophy)
- 6 credits in social sciences (e.g., anthropology, psychology, sociology, human geography)

Lower-level requirements:
- 24 credits in laboratory science as shown below
- 6 credits in first-year calculus

Upper-level requirements:
- 30 credits of mathematics and natural sciences (biology, chemistry, geology, physics) in courses numbered 300 and above; 18 credits must be in one of the above areas for a minor, and 6 credits in each of two areas that are different from the minor
- 15 credits of science or non-science electives

Other requirements:
- 30 credits of lower- or upper-level electives.
